The shape on these post earrings is a painter palette, you can see the brush and the little spots where the paint sits, it's a colorful pattern with 4 faux gemstones that emulate the colors a painter would use to start their work of art.

These are just very sweet and unique pieces of jewelry. This kind of Mexican silver post earrings or the design on them was very popular on the 1980's. Some silversmiths used it to make brooches and bracelets as well.
